PhD for a day

PhD for a Day exposes middle school students to the life of Columbia graduate students by allowing them to visit the campus and perform experiments in the laboratories.

Middle school students get to visit the Columbia University campus to run experiments in the laboratory and hear about research from chemistry faculty. In the lab, students learn about safety as they don lab coats, goggles, and gloves to perform hands-on experiments demonstrating concepts in energy conversion and states of matter. Students get to practice using the scientific method by applying it to the experiments and predicting the outcome.

PhD for a Day is held every spring. Currently, it is partnered with the seventh grade class at Harlem Children's Zone Promise Academy II. For more information or to take part in a similar experience please contact.
